For our Current Issues lesson assignment, we were supposed to create a corpus based material in pairs for preparation class students. My pair is Esma and our focus was on “will and be going to usage differences” which is studied in 10th unit of the book named “television” and under the subheading of “plans for the future”.
Our first step is testing students’ knowledge, second is hands on corpus search following different activities which are in gradual order. Therefore, students will be able to activate their schemata by referring to background knowledge in the first step. After this warm-up activity, students will search the topic by using corpus as a tool for deducing information. Finally, they have activities which starts with an easy one and continues with a harder one and an extra open-ended activity. Also, they can understand the tasks easily by the examples given. While designing this activity, I was excited to be honest because as a pre-service teacher, this would be my first real worksheet to prepare. I tried to fulfill all the requirements and also do something creative. By using Canva app, I was able to add different objects and use different styles to make students attracted. If our activity implemented in a real classroom, there would be active students because they are searching and learning by doing with the help of technology which is called Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL). Also, there would be a collaboration between students as they are in pairs. As for the teacher, s/he would be a facilitator or a guide for the students. Overall, it was an improving activity for a pre-service teacher who lives in a technology world which enhances and changes everyday.
